Sensory play is so important for our little ones to learn through play and this can be accomplished through open ended play with loose parts that can be found around the house or out in nature!

Loose parts can be used in so many different ways:
– counting
– matching
– patterns
– shapes
– stacking

For a fun twist on the usual sensory play – try placing the items inside balloons and having your little ones feel and guess what’s inside!

I first started off with 6 different items that varied in size so that it would be easier for her to guess. I ended up using water, flour, rice, chickpeas, penne pasta and rocks.

We talked about which ones were hard and which were softer (water/flour) and sorted the balloons. This was a fun way to really feel the materials without seeing what they looked like.
