Rainbows bring such happiness to everyone’s faces and when we combine those colors with a pantry staple, we get the perfect sensory activity for your toddlers – Rainbow Rice!
This sensory play is very simple to make – you only need a few ingredients!
You will need:
For each color:
- 1 cup of rice (white or brown)
- 1 tsp of white vinegar
- Few drops of food coloring
- Ziploc Bag
- Baking Sheet
- Tin Foil – 1 strip for each color
- Paper Towels
Setting up:
Add your rice, vinegar and food coloring into a Ziploc bag and mix until color is evenly distributed.
Line a baking sheet with strips of tin foil, fold up the edges of each strip to prevent colors from mixing. Top with paper towel.
Pour your rice on top, spread out and let dry for 1-2 hours.
Repeat for all colors. Store in a sealed bag or container.
Ways to play:
– Pour rice into a tray & add scoops/bowls for sensory play
– Hide puzzle pieces in the rice & have your littles find each piece to complete the puzzle
For younger ones: pour rice into an empty water bottle to create a fun sensory bottle for your littles to shake!
